During the treatment, clinically tested whitening gels based on hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide are most commonly used; these are both safe and effective.
As a first step, the dentist cleans the tooth surfaces and then applies the professional whitening gel.
This is activated with a special LED lamp, usually in three 10–15 minute cycles.
At the end of the procedure—if needed—a desensitizing gel is applied to minimize any discomfort.
To help maintain long-lasting results, patients are also provided with a whitening toothpaste if desired.
Teeth whitening is usually completely painless.
Some patients may experience temporary tooth sensitivity or mild gum irritation, which typically disappears within a few hours or days.
It’s worth noting that in our clinic, over the past 15 years and hundreds of whitening treatments, we have never encountered any lasting sensitivity.
Depending on lifestyle and oral hygiene habits, the whitening effect can last up to 1–2 years.
For best durability, regular check-ups and professional dental cleanings are recommended.
During the first 48 hours after treatment, it’s recommended to avoid foods and drinks that stain or are acidic (coffee, tea, red wine, cola, beetroot, berries), as well as smoking, because these can affect the final result.
At-home whitening products do exist, but their effectiveness and durability are lower than professional treatments.
Incorrect use of home kits can also lead to tooth sensitivity or enamel damage.
The treatment is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or in cases of active tooth decay, untreated periodontal disease, or severe enamel damage.
