Consultation
Your dentist or oral surgeon examines your mouth and takes an X-ray to map the position of the wisdom tooth. This determines whether removal is needed.
Why Timely Action Is Important?
Wisdom tooth surgery is recommended when the teeth cause problems—for example, if they grow in at an angle and create crowding. Partial eruption can lead to inflammation and infection around the gum that is hard to clean. Because these hard-to-reach teeth are prone to decay, they may also endanger the neighboring teeth. If you experience pain, swelling, or other symptoms, surgery helps prevent more serious complications. The goal of the procedure is to preserve oral health and eliminate discomfort.

Step by step
Here’s how the procedure is carried out—from preparation to after-care—so you know exactly what happens and can feel at ease.
Consultation
Your dentist or oral surgeon examines your mouth and takes an X-ray to map the position of the wisdom tooth. This determines whether removal is needed.
Preparation and Anesthesia
Local anaesthetic keeps you completely comfortable. For complex cases—such as removing several teeth—sedation or general anaesthesia can be arranged.
Preparing the Gum and Bone
If the tooth is partly or fully under the gum, a small opening is made. Occasionally a thin layer of bone is gently removed to reach the tooth safely.
Tooth Removal
The tooth is removed either whole or in small sections, depending on access. Impacted teeth are often divided into smaller pieces for an easier, smoother extraction.
Closing the Site
Stitches may be placed to speed healing and reduce infection risk. In some cases the area heals well without sutures—your surgeon will decide.
After-Care Guidance
You’ll leave with clear instructions: use a cold compress, take prescribed pain relief or antibiotics if advised, and avoid heavy exercise and certain foods. A follow-up check ensures proper healing.
