Premium Dental Crown

What is a dental crown?

A dental crown is a type of restoration that completely covers a damaged or weakened tooth, restoring its shape, strength, and appearance. It helps maintain the tooth’s functionality, reinforces it, and provides an aesthetic look, and can be made from porcelain, metal-ceramic, or zirconia.

Types of dental crowns

AESTHETIC OPTIONS MADE FROM PREMIUM MATERIALS

Dental crowns can be made from various materials, allowing every patient to find the solution that best suits their needs. Premium ceramic and zirconia crowns offer a natural appearance, while metal-ceramic and gold crowns are known for their exceptional durability. Below is a brief overview of the most commonly used types.

Porcelain-fused-to-metal crown

It has an inner metal framework and an outer porcelain layer, providing excellent durability and stability. It withstands high chewing forces well, making it especially ideal for posterior teeth, but in suitable cases it can also be used for aesthetically restoring front teeth.

Ceramic crown

A completely metal-free crown made of porcelain, offering exceptional aesthetics and a highly natural appearance. It is an ideal choice for restoring front teeth, where appearance is especially important.

Zirconia crown

An extremely durable, fully metal-free restoration that provides exceptional strength along with a highly aesthetic, natural-looking appearance. Thanks to its premium zirconia framework, it withstands strong biting forces, making it an ideal choice for both front and molar teeth. Its biocompatibility and lifelike appearance make it one of the most popular types of modern dental restorations.

Gold crown

An extremely durable, precisely fitting, and biocompatible restoration that is gentle on opposing teeth and the gums. Thanks to its high strength, it provides a long-lasting and reliable solution, especially for molars. Although it is less favorable aesthetically, it remains a popular choice due to its outstanding longevity and stability.

Dental Crown – Protection and Aesthetics

When dental crown Is Recommended?

Extensive Decay or Broken Tooth

If a tooth has suffered mechanical damage (fracture, crack) or extensive decay, a traditional filling may no longer provide adequate protection. A crown completely covers the tooth, restores its original shape, reinforces its structure, and prevents further breakage or damage.

Root-Treated Tooth

Root-treated teeth are often fragile due to the removal of internal tissue. A crown surrounds and reinforces the tooth, preserving its functionality over the long term and protecting it against chewing forces.

Aesthetic Restoration

A crown can be used not only for functional but also for aesthetic purposes. For discolored, deformed, or irregularly shaped teeth, a crown provides a natural-looking, harmonious smile, enhancing the patient’s confidence and appearance.

Instead of Large Fillings

If a tooth already has multiple or large fillings, its structure becomes weaker, and additional fillings may not provide long-term protection. A crown stabilizes the tooth permanently, reduces the risk of fracture, and offers a long-lasting solution for tooth preservation.

Process of making a dental crown

Step by step

We briefly present the process of making a dental crown, from the preparation and impression taking all the way to the fabrication and placement of the final crown.

Step 1

Consultation

The first step is a personal consultation, during which the dentist examines the teeth, assesses their condition, and selects the appropriate type of crown.

Step 2

Tooth preparation and impression taking

First, the dentist prepares the tooth, and if it is severely damaged, a build-up or post is used to ensure stable support. Then, a traditional impression or a digital 3D scan is taken, based on which the dental laboratory fabricates the precisely fitting final crown.

Step 3

Placement of a temporary crown

Until the final crown is ready, the patient receives a temporary crown, which protects the prepared tooth, ensures an aesthetic appearance, and allows comfortable chewing.

Step 4

Fabrication of the final crown

Based on the impression or digital scan, the dental laboratory precisely shapes the crown, taking into account the tooth’s color, shape, and bite alignment. The resulting crown matches the natural teeth both aesthetically and functionally, ensuring a durable and comfortable outcome.

Step 5

Final crown placement

The dentist checks the crown’s fit, shape, color, and bite, making fine adjustments if necessary. Once everything is perfect, the crown is permanently cemented with a special adhesive, restoring the tooth to a stable, functional, and aesthetic state.

Step 6

Regular check-up and aftercare

Proper oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups ensure that the dental crown remains stable, durable, and comfortable in the long term.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Crowns

Helpful tips

Getting a crown is not painful, as local anesthesia is applied before the procedure.

On average, a crown lasts 10–15 years, but with proper oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, it can last even longer.

Typically, making a crown requires two appointments: the first for tooth preparation and impression taking, and the second for crown placement.

During the first few days, mild sensitivity to hot, cold, or chewing may occur, but this usually resolves on its own.

If the crown is damaged or becomes loose, contact your dentist immediately. Early intervention prevents further damage to the tooth, and the crown can be repaired or replaced if necessary.

The price depends on the material and type, an exact cost can only be determined after a personal examination.
